In many parts of Europe, tourism is a highly significant economic sector that can make an enormous contribution to the fortunes of a region. For more than 10 years, NIMTECH has been helping small and medium sized enterprises in the tourism sector to compete more effectively and to attract new business.
One of the key ways in which we have helped to support small businesses has been by encouraging and facilitating the development of local clusters – groups of independent businesses such as hotels and tourist attractions that share a common locality and which agree to work together to achieve economies of scale. These might include collective marketing activities - such as special events, literature development and the promotion of a particular region as a tourist destination - group purchasing activities and use of shared staff and resources.
Like any other commercial operation, tourism businesses can benefit from maintaining strict controls over waste and the consumption of water and energy. For this reason, NIMTECH has been actively engaged in a succession of publicly funded projects designed to encourage sustainable practices in the tourism industry. These projects, which have been operating at various times since the mid 1990s, have enabled hoteliers and similar businesses to make substantial cost savings and have helped them to attract new business by promoting their achievements to a market that is becoming increasingly conscious of environmental concerns.

Testimonial:
“NIMTECH staff helped us to form the Bowland Experience,
which with nearly 20 members, enables us to work together to promote the region
and to provide visitors with a better, more informed holiday experience. Through
initiatives like the Sustourex project and the ‘Buy Local’ food
trade event, many of us have also been able to improve the sustainability of
our operations and to reduce operating costs quite considerably.”
